Call an Electrician FIRST

This is a homeowners nightmare! Here a homeowner made an attempt to save money by adding an outlet and some wiring and making connections on their own. At this home, renovations were being done to move a wall and add an new receptacle. The circuit was accessed and never grounded properly, nor installed into a junction box with a sealed cover. This pictured electrical junction was “in the way” and left buried within a ceiling cavity with plaster over top of it. When we found this it was literally red hot and smoldering because of the lack of knowledge in even making the connections. 🔥 A fire could have easily started at any moment. And because of it’s poor wiring methods and unknowledgeable termination, the breakers on the system did NOT trip either. This is so very dangerous in many ways, and lots of DIY and handyman repairs result in cut corners like this. In the end saving money can cost far more than just funds.
