Electrician Service Cable Replacement

Pictured here, you see a residential 100 AMP service drop. The overhead lateral wires coming from the utility (PECO) is where the power connection is introduced to be distributed to your property. The service cable is the homeowners responsibility to maintain and it’s size 100 AMP or 200 AMP varies depending on the square footage of your home and specific calculations that determine the load placed on your system . Violations are shown here. The service weather head is not mounted to the structure. It’s simply hanging suspended by the wires themselves, this creates stress on the connections, cables and allows potential weather related moisture to enter the cables. It needs to be secured where it’s missing cable straps within proper distance of the head. Also you will notice multiple tap connections between the utility overhead lateral and the service head itself. Each point becomes an additional point of potential failure. This cable is not very old however because of the violations It has been compromised. If your service entry looks like this you should have it inspected and corrected by a licensed and insured electrician. Lighthouse is a premiere electrical contractor in Bucks County PA.
